Help for Stress & Burnout in Norwich & Online

Understanding Stress & Burnout

Chronic stress and burnout can leave you feeling drained, disconnected, and unable to enjoy life. You might notice constant fatigue, irritability, difficulty concentrating, or feeling like you’re “running on empty.” Left unchecked, burnout can impact your work, relationships, and physical health.

As a BACP-registered therapist, I provide a safe space to explore what’s causing your stress, develop healthier coping strategies, and rebuild your energy and motivation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stress & Burnout

This page answers common questions about working with stress and burnout in therapy. If you are unsure whether counselling is right for you, you are welcome to book a free introductory call so we can talk it through together.

How do I know if I’m experiencing burnout or chronic stress?
Burnout often looks like persistent exhaustion, reduced motivation, feeling detached or cynical about work or responsibilities, and finding it hard to recover even after rest. Chronic stress can show up as tension, irritability, sleep issues, headaches, and feeling “always on.” If these experiences are affecting daily life, therapy can help you understand what’s happening and begin to recover.
What does a stress-focused counselling session look like?
Sessions are calm and collaborative. We map your current pressures, notice patterns that keep stress going, and practise practical tools such as boundary-setting, nervous system regulation, and gentle mindset work. The pace is steady and you decide what feels most useful each week.
Which approaches do you use for stress and burnout?
I draw from person-centred counselling with a trauma-informed lens, and integrate simple CBT-style techniques, mindfulness, and somatic regulation. We tailor the approach to your needs, preferences, and energy levels.
Can counselling help with work-related burnout?
Yes. We can explore workload, role expectations, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and boundary challenges. Together we build sustainable strategies for pacing, rest, and communication so you can recover and make informed decisions about work.
Do I need time off work to recover from burnout?
Not everyone needs time off, though some people find a short break helpful. We’ll look at your situation and discuss options. If you’re considering a GP note or workplace adjustments, I can support you in planning and communicating your needs.
How many sessions will I need?
Everyone is different. Some people feel a shift after six to eight sessions; others prefer longer-term support while they make changes. We review your goals regularly so you know how therapy is helping and what might come next.
What can I do between sessions?
I may offer gentle, low-pressure practices such as short breathing exercises, micro-breaks, sleep routines, values-based boundary scripts, or small habit tweaks. These are always optional and designed to fit your life, not add to your to-do list.
Is online counselling effective for stress and burnout?
Yes. Many clients choose online sessions because it saves travel time and feels easier when energy is low. The work is the same, and we can practise tools you can use in everyday settings at home or at work.
I’m exhausted and anxious about starting therapy. What if I don’t know what to say?
That’s very common with burnout. Our first meeting is simply a gentle conversation. You set the pace, and I can guide with supportive questions. Pauses are welcome — there’s no right way to begin.
Do you work with different sources of stress?
Yes. I support clients experiencing work and academic pressure, caregiving stress, financial or health-related stress, perfectionism, and stress alongside neurodiversity. If something is outside my scope, I’ll be honest and help you find the right support.
What can I expect in a first session?
The first session is a chance to get to know each other. You can share what has brought you to counselling, and we can explore whether my approach feels like a good fit for you.
How long is a session and how often do we meet?
Sessions are 50 minutes. Many clients meet weekly at a regular time, although we can discuss a rhythm that works for you.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes, with the standard exceptions around serious risk of harm or legal obligations. I explain confidentiality fully in our first meeting so you know exactly how your information is protected.
Do I need a GP referral?
No referral is needed. You can contact me directly to book an introductory call or a first session.
Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes. I offer in-person sessions in Norwich and online counselling via Zoom across the UK.
