Support for Life Changes & Grief in Norwich & Online

Understanding Life Changes & Grief

Major life changes, whether expected or sudden, can be overwhelming. Grief, whether from the loss of a loved one, a relationship ending, or a significant shift in life circumstances, can affect every part of your daily life. You may feel sadness, anger, numbness, or a mix of emotions that are hard to process alone.

I offer a supportive, non-judgemental space to explore your feelings, find ways to adjust, and begin to heal at your own pace.

Frequently Asked Questions About Life Changes & Grief

This page answers common questions about counselling for bereavement, loss and major life transitions. If you’re unsure whether support is right for you, you’re welcome to book a free introductory call so we can talk it through together.

How do I know if counselling could help with my grief or life change?
If you feel overwhelmed, stuck, numb, or find daily tasks hard after a loss or big transition, counselling can offer a safe space to process feelings, make sense of change, and find steadier ground at your own pace.
Is grief supposed to follow “stages”?
Grief isn’t linear. You may move between emotions such as sadness, anger, relief, guilt, or numbness. There is no right timeline. Therapy helps you respond to what you’re actually feeling rather than trying to fit a model.
What do sessions for grief or transitions look like?
Sessions are gentle and guided by you. We explore your story, honour your relationship to what’s been lost, and build coping strategies for waves of emotion, anniversaries, and everyday routines. You choose the pace and topics each week.
What kinds of losses or changes do you work with?
I support bereavement, relationship endings, health changes, caring roles, fertility or pregnancy loss, job or identity shifts, moving home, and other transitions. If something is outside my scope, I’ll be honest and help you find suitable support.
How is grief different from depression?
Grief often comes in waves linked to memories and meaning; depression can feel more constant and can include loss of interest across many areas. They can overlap. We’ll explore what you’re experiencing and consider options that fit your needs.
Can counselling help with traumatic or sudden loss?
Yes. We work carefully to stabilise your nervous system, process shock and intrusive memories at a manageable pace, and build resources for safety and support. We’ll only move forward when it feels safe enough to do so.
What about anticipatory grief or complicated feelings?
Anticipatory grief (before a loss) and mixed emotions such as relief or anger are common. Therapy makes room for the full range of feelings without judgement and helps you prepare practically and emotionally for what’s ahead.
How long does grief last? When should I seek help?
There’s no set timeline. If months have passed and you feel stuck, isolated, or unable to return to parts of life that matter to you, counselling can help you carry the loss while rebuilding day-to-day steadiness and meaning.
Can therapy support me to maintain a connection with the person I lost?
Yes. Many people find comfort in “continuing bonds” — rituals, memories, letters, or actions that honour your relationship. We can explore what feels meaningful and supportive for you and your culture or beliefs.
Can you help me support children or family members through grief?
I can offer guidance on age-appropriate language, routines, and ways to remember together, as well as support for your own feelings while caring for others. If specialist child therapy is needed, I can signpost you sensitively.
Is online counselling effective for grief and life transitions?
Yes. Many people value the privacy and comfort of home. Online sessions allow us to pace the work gently and practise grounding tools you can use between sessions.
What can I expect in a first session?
The first session is a chance to get to know each other. You can share what has brought you to counselling, and we can explore whether my approach feels like a good fit for you.
How long is a session and how often do we meet?
Sessions are 50 minutes. Many clients meet weekly at a regular time, although we can discuss a rhythm that works for you.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes, with the standard exceptions around serious risk of harm or legal obligations. I explain confidentiality fully in our first meeting so you know exactly how your information is protected.
Do I need a GP referral?
No referral is needed. You can contact me directly to book an introductory call or a first session.
Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes. I offer in-person sessions in Norwich and online counselling via Zoom across the UK.
