Anxiety Counselling in Norwich & Online

Understanding Anxiety

Anxiety can touch every part of life, from work and relationships to sleep and self-esteem. You might find yourself feeling constantly on edge, second-guessing your decisions, or noticing your body is tense and restless without understanding why.

It is exhausting, but you do not have to go through it on your own.

As a BACP-registered therapist, I provide a warm and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, make sense of what is driving your anxiety, and find practical ways to manage it. Together we can work towards helping you feel calmer, more in control, and at peace with yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions About Anxiety

Frequently Asked Questions About Anxiety

This page answers common questions about working with anxiety in therapy. If you are unsure whether counselling is right for you, you are welcome to book a free introductory call so we can talk it through together.

How do I know if anxiety is the main thing I should work on?
Anxiety often shows up as constant worry, trouble sleeping, tension in the body, difficulty relaxing, or avoiding situations that feel uncomfortable. If these experiences are getting in the way of daily life, focusing on anxiety in therapy can help you understand what is happening and learn ways to feel more at ease.
What does an anxiety-focused session look like?
Sessions are calm and collaborative. We explore what you are facing right now, notice patterns and triggers, and practise practical tools such as grounding, breath work, and thought-challenging. The pace is gentle and you choose what you want to focus on.
Which approaches do you use for anxiety?
I draw from person-centred counselling with a trauma-informed lens, and integrate simple CBT-style tools, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation techniques. We tailor the approach to what feels most supportive for you.
Can counselling help with panic attacks?
Yes. We work on understanding your panic cycle, learning grounding skills to reduce the intensity and duration of episodes, and building confidence to re-enter situations you may have started to avoid.
Do I need medication to treat anxiety?
Many people find therapy helpful on its own. Some choose to combine counselling with medication after speaking to a GP. I do not prescribe, but I can support you in making an informed choice and in working alongside any medical treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
Everyone is different. Some people feel a shift after six to eight sessions, while others prefer longer-term work. We review your goals regularly so you always know how therapy is helping and what the next step might be.
What can I do between sessions?
I may offer gentle practices to try, such as short breathing exercises, noticing journals, or small exposure steps. These are always optional and designed to fit your life, not add pressure.
Is online counselling effective for anxiety?
Yes. Many clients choose online sessions because they feel safer at home or because it fits their schedule. The work is the same, and we can practise tools you can use in everyday settings.
I feel anxious about starting therapy. What if I do not know what to say?
That is very common. The first session is simply a conversation at your pace. You are welcome to pause, take time, or let me guide with gentle questions. There is no right way to begin.
Do you work with different types of anxiety?
Yes. I support clients with generalised anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety, work-related stress, perfectionism, and anxiety that shows up alongside neurodiversity. If something is outside my scope, I will be honest and help you find the right support.
What can I expect in a first session?
The first session is a chance to get to know each other. You can share what has brought you to counselling, and we can explore whether my approach feels like a good fit for you.
How long is a session and how often do we meet?
Sessions are 50 minutes. Many clients meet weekly at a regular time, although we can discuss a rhythm that works for you.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes, with the standard exceptions around serious risk of harm or legal obligations. I explain confidentiality fully in our first meeting so you know exactly how your information is protected.
Do I need a GP referral?
No referral is needed. You can contact me directly to book an introductory call or a first session.
Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes. I offer in-person sessions in Norwich and online counselling via Zoom across the UK.
