Frequently Asked Questions About Confidence & Identity Counselling

This page answers common questions about counselling for confidence, self-esteem, and identity difficulties. If you are unsure whether support is right for you, you are welcome to book a free introductory call so we can talk it through together.

How do I know if confidence counselling could help?
If you often doubt yourself, struggle to speak up, feel anxious in social situations, or find yourself second-guessing decisions, counselling can help you build self-esteem, trust your own voice, and feel more grounded in who you are.
What happens in a confidence-focused session?
We explore what’s holding you back, including past experiences, beliefs, and current challenges. You’ll learn practical tools for setting boundaries, handling self-criticism, and building healthier thought patterns that strengthen your confidence over time.
Can counselling help me stop people-pleasing?
Yes. Many clients come because they put others’ needs first and struggle to say no. We work on understanding these patterns, increasing self-worth, and practising small, realistic steps towards valuing your own needs equally.
What if I’ve struggled with low self-esteem for years?
Change is possible even if these patterns have been around a long time. Counselling helps you notice unhelpful habits, release self-criticism, and build new ways of relating to yourself — at your own pace and in a supportive environment.
Can counselling help me feel more secure in my identity?
Yes. If you feel unsure of who you are, conflicted about life choices, or disconnected from your values, we can explore your identity together. This process helps you feel more authentic, confident, and at ease with yourself.
Is online counselling effective for confidence and identity issues?
Yes. Many people find it easier to open up from the comfort of their own home. Online sessions provide the same tools, insights, and support as in-person work, with added flexibility and privacy.
What can I expect in a first session?
The first session is a chance to share what has brought you to counselling and to see whether my approach feels right for you. You don’t need to prepare — simply come as you are.
How long is a session and how often do we meet?
Sessions last 50 minutes. Many clients choose to meet weekly, but we can discuss a rhythm that fits your needs and lifestyle.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. Everything you share is treated with respect and confidentiality, except in cases of serious risk of harm or legal obligations. I explain this fully in our first meeting so you feel safe and informed.
Do I need a GP referral?
No referral is needed. You can get in touch directly to arrange an introductory call or your first session.
Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes. I offer in-person sessions in Norwich and online counselling across the UK via Zoom.
